Basic Surgical Aspects of Oral Implantology..

📖 Basic Surgical Aspects of Oral Implantology..

Dental implants are inert, alloplastic materials embedded in the maxilla and/or mandible for the management of tooth loss and to aid replacement of lost orofacial structures as a result of trauma, neoplasia and congenital defects for orthodontic purposes. Crowns, bridges and dentures may be the alternative options of replacement of missing teeth but crown and bridge dentistry requires grinding down of healthy teeth leaving them at much greater risk for cavities and tooth failure. Crown and bridge dentistry do not stop bone loss where as dentures become uncomfortable and unstable over time as the jaw bone shrinks causing masticatory and speech problems and can also induce periodontal disease and aggravates the condition. With the advancement of dental implants, healthy teeth are not compromised as well as, like natural teeth, dental implants stimulate the jaw and stop bone loss.
