Brucellosis and Protective Immunity. Brucellosis, Immunity, Vaccine.

📖 Brucellosis and Protective Immunity. Brucellosis, Immunity, Vaccine.

Brucellosis is the most common anthropozoonotic disease worldwide with more than 5,00,000 cases reported annually. There are effective vaccines for animal use, but there is no effective human vaccine. Moreover, no use of animal vaccines in developing countries like Bangladesh hinders the effective control of disease in animals. It is also difficult to treat brucellosis as the bacteria reside within the specialized compartment in cytosol of monocyte macrophage phagocytic system. The infected animals do transmit the disease to humans. Approximately 2.4 billion people are at risk of getting brucellosis every year. There are no vaccination programs with B. abortus SRB51 (SRB51) in Bangladesh. The introduction of SRB51 has been recommended to control bovine brucellosis. SRB51 has also been approved as an official calfhood vaccine by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service branch of the United States Department of Agriculture.
