📖 Household Food Security. Influence on Diet and Nutritional Status of Pre-school Children.

Malnutrition is a major health problem in most developing countries and poses a costly drain on national economies and therefore deserves to be assessed periodically in order to facilitate the development and implementation of targeted interventions. The increase in malnutrition rates in rural and urban households in most developing countries over the years is mainly attributed to reduced access to enough food.Pre-school children are among the most vulnerable groups, their nutritional status being determined by among others, availability of food at a household level. This book reveals that nutritional status of the pre-school children is significantly affected by dietary intake, symptoms of disease, household food security and education level of the mother or caregiver.It is therefore hoped that this book will assist scholars and professional in foods and human nutrition related fields shed more light on its findings. The book will also assist governments and other agencies to establish surveillance systems, which would ensure necessary and timely interventions to avert cases of food insecurity and its related nutritional effects especially among pre-school children.
