📖 Proposing the Resource Curse Indicator (RCI) - A Kenyan Case Study..

This paper has made a qualitative assessment as to whether or not Kenya is susceptible to The Resource Curse. The assessment was based upon a quantitative framework derived from research detailing the experiences of other African countries that have been assessed through peer review to have suffered either a Resource Curse or a Resource Blessing. The framework was used to populate scores on this papers primary result which was The Resource Curse Indicator (RCI). The RCI plots the position of a country directly against its peers on a scale, allowing comparison between peers and an assessment to be made as to whether a country is suffering a Resource Curse, or receiving a Resource Blessing. The framework developed in this paper used multiple datasets from organisations such as The World Bank, The IMF, and Transparency International amongst others to provide a statistical basis for making a clear comparison of Kenya against her African peers. The intent was to create an RCI that can be broadened through further research, can be applied to any country in the world and that can be updated annually to show improvement or deterioration in any one countries position.
